Test Riding Motorcycles

To enjoy working as a motorcycle courier you must love riding motorcycles. If you look on it as just earning a living you'll end up loathing the job. I love everything motorcycle and have been riding motorcycles a long time, and still get a buzz every time I get on one. I'm luckier than most. I have a good friend that owns a motorcycle showroom. I test ride motorcycles for him when I have time and have ridden most makes and models.

I believe the more motorcycles you ride the better rider you become as every motorcycle performs and handles differently which sharpens your riding skills. Taking this into consideration its important when choosing a motorcycle, that you not only like the look of the motorcycle but are comfortable riding it. I know lads that have seen a motorcycle in a showroom, fallen in love with the look of it, then bought it without having a test ride. They get the motorcycle delivered and when they ride it don't like the way it handles. Size of the motorcycle is another issue, its no good buying a large motorcycle if your small in statue and you can't put your feet securely on the ground when you stop, otherwise your going to fall off.

It seems obvious but I've seen riders that need to stand on tip toes when they stop their motorcycle. All it takes is a gust of wind or loss of balance and over they go. The most dangerous mistake is to buy a motorcycle which is too powerful that you can't handle. I knew a lad that passed his test then went out and bought a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. Wrote it off the first week he had it and ended up in hospital. If your not sure what motorcycle to buy don't be afraid to ask someone. Don't ask the salesman as he's only interested in his commission. Have a good look around several showrooms and test ride as many motorcycles as possible before making a decision. A good idea is to take someone knowledgeable with you.
