Triumph Speed Triple 955i

Posted by Howard Trott on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 Under: British Motorcycles
I have rode a Triumph Speed Triple 955i motorcycle for many years, find the bike fast, easy to handle and reliable.

Introduced first as the T509 in 1997 the Speed Triple represented Triumph's attempt at creating a motorcycle in the Streetfighter image. Although essentially a Daytona T595 without the fairing, the most significant difference between the two models was the Speed Triple's smaller 885cc engine, detuned for more mid-range power. Apart from having a different oil cooler and the option of either one-piece handlebars or clip-ons, in all other respects the Speed Triple used the same components as the Daytona.

The T509's engine was uprated to 955cc for the 1999 model year and the model was renamed 955i Speed Triple. The redesigned 955cc engine was fitted in 2002, together with all the other uprated ancillary components. An all-black special edition Speed Triple was available in 2004, the final year for the 955-engined Speed Triple.

My motorcycle, a Triumph Speed Triple 955i, 2003 model.
